Thursday 5th April - Thursday 3rd May 2018
The forms I make are a colourful figurative blend of plants, animals and people.
A piece will begin with an idea, a few sketches and a feeling. Working intuitively, I let the material guide me to our next organic move. Leaving me intrigued, surprised, humoured or unnerved by the creations as they evolve.
The finished pieces show a glimpse of a private conversational dance between my whole self and the material.
Each individual ceramic element represents a single component of energy, which combines to create the final expression.
The drawings often depict an organic futuristic species that live a holistic self-sufficient lifestyle. The creatures are hybrid, plant based, self-fertilizing organisms that recycle their own waste and live in symbiotic harmony with their environment.

EMBODIED is a visual representation of Angel’s personal interpretation of the human body and its relationship with the physical world. The pieces in this collection combine various different media - the human body is captured in photographs, while both digital art and paint are used to explore the world outside of the body. The result is an unsettling yet beautiful combination of reality (the curves and muscles of the body) and surreality (the dreamlike landscapes and strange, elaborate backdrops to the photographs, delivered directly to the canvas from Angel’s vivid imagination).
